Fifth and sixth class participated in this project and really enjoyed it.
First we had to make a model of Oonaghs shop in Rath. Ger Foran (an artist) came to our school. He showed us how to construct a model of the buiding. We covered it with paper mache strips. A few days later we painted it.
Our model was put on display in the "Engage centre" in Main street, Tullamore.
Other schools had models of buildings too.
We visited this centre and we saw a powerpoint presentation of different buildings in Tullamore and Birr.
We learned a lot about architecture and buildings aroung us. We learned the difference between a gabled roof. We had worksheets which showed us storeys and bays of houses.
The best part of the visit was when we got to build and assemble buildings of our own, using wooden solid shapes, jigsaws, blocks etc.
We really enjoyed this project.
Thanks to Offaly County Council.
