This morning, in the beautiful sunshine, we did yoga with Ana! We found it very peaceful and calming to do all of the exercises while listening to the birds. We are having such a fun Active Week and getting a chance to experience so many new activities!
This week is Active Schools Week. Today we had rugby skills training with Denis Russo. We really enjoyed playing bulldog and throwing and passing the rugby ball. We love to keep fit and healthy.
We are being coached in fundamental movement skills with Adrian Clancy every Friday. We are learning how to run, hop, jump, side step, throw and catch. It is so much fun and we love participating in all the games and challenges.
Today we celebrated our patron saint, Saint Patrick. We learned about the life of Saint Patrick. We learned two new Irish dances and had a ceili in the yard. We made Saint Patrick's Day headbands and we dressed in green! La Feile Padraig faoi mhaise daoibh go leir!
We celebrated World Book Day on the 4th March by dressing up as a favourite character from a book. Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks, (to name but a few), all came to school for the day!
We discussed the importance of wearing warm winter clothes. We coloured templates of mittens and hats and used these to help us create self portraits. We used pastels and sugar paper to complete our portraits!
We really enjoyed Science Week. We combined maths and science by creating 3D shapes using cocktail sticks and marshmallows. We ate the marshmallows when we were finished!
We also discussed marine life and the impact of marine litter. We watched an animation about the impact of marine litter on a whale and we read an ebook called "The story of Plastic".
We explored the effect of heat on popcorn kernels and we made popcorn in school. We used our senses to touch, taste, smell, see and hear the popcorn.
Science is so much fun!
We had sooooooooo much fun today. The children came to school in fancy dress and they were very scary! We had a disco, we coloured Halloween pictures, we went on a witch walk and we watched a movie. As a special treat we even had popcorn. Enjoy the holidays everyone!
This week we have been exploring the story of six. We have been making sets of six and partitioning six objects.
