Summary of School Self-Evaluation Report
1. Introduction- School Context
There are four mainstream class teachers, a shared learning support teacher, visiting resource teacher and full time SNA in Scoil Naisiunta Naomh Eoin
There are 102 pupils on roll 2013/2014.Our attendance levels are very good and parents are very supportive of our school. Our pupils’ behaviour is very good.

1.1The focus of the evaluation
We undertook a school self-evaluation of teaching and learning in literacy during 2013 . We chose this because we felt that our pupils could improve their learning outcomes in this area.
This report summarises the strengths that were identified and the areas that have been prioritised for development.
2. Summary of school self-evaluation findings
We gathered information from parents, pupils and teachers in preparing this report. We looked at how well our pupils were doing in reading and writing .In our self-evaluation we looked at our standardised test results, examined work samples of pupils’ writing and utilised pupil and parent questionnaires to gather the evidence.
2.1 We found that our school has strengths in the following areas:

We know these are our strengths because the gathering of evidence enabled us to define the above.
2.2 We have decided to prioritise the following areas for development:

We have decided to prioritise these areas so as all the genres of writing are explicitly taught and the grammar and spelling content for each class grouping will be defined.

- Most pupils consider themselves good readers and enjoy reading at home as well as school
- Most pupils are performing above the national norm in literacy
- When writing pupils display a reasonable grasp of grammar and punctuation and have neat legible handwriting

2.2 We have decided to prioritise the following areas for development:
Areas for development
- Improve middle bands in literacy
- Improve pupils’ attitude to writing
- To equip pupils with the knowledge and skills to write in a variety of genres using correct grammar , punctuation , spelling and an expansive vocabulary
