School tour 2013

6/11/2013

On Thurs. 6th June , 3rd & 4th class went to Lullymore Heritage Park in Co. Kildare. George was our guide and he guided us on a nature walk through the forest. First we saw insect eating plants: the  sun dew, the  Canadian pitcher plant and the Venus fly trap.
We learned about our native Irish trees like the holly and how it changes shape as it grows taller seeking the sunlight.
We saw the inside of a famine cottage and how a hedge school was set up.We walked into a Crannog , it was so dark inside.  The' fairy bower' was amazing . Unfortunately we didn't see any fairies. George explained how the 'fulacht fia ' was used and we also saw a miniature dolmen. All of us made a wish around the hawthorn tree.
After lunch we played crazy golf........ it was great fun!!
We had a great time in Lullymore and a big thank you to George and Ray.
