In May and June we were learning all about the different ways to measure items. First of all we had lots of fun learning about length and using nonstandard units to measure things in the classroom. We even measured our names, feet and each other! Did you know we could measure how tall a person is using lollipop sticks or teddy bears?
Next, we learned how to buy sweets in the shop. Junior Infants learned about the 1c, 2c and 5c coins while Senior Infants can tell you all the coins up to €1! We had lots of fun playing shopkeeper and customer with our partners and seeing how much money we would need for our Teddy Bear’s Picnic.
After that we were looking at containers and which containers in our class hold more or less than our cups. We wondered what size bath you would need for an elephant? We also helped Jack figure out which container he should bring up the beanstalk with him to carry the most golden beans.
Finally, we finished our year in Junior & Senior Infants by learning all about weight and how to weigh things in our classroom. We compared items, estimated how heavy things would be and also thought about how a balance works. We really enjoyed working at the different stations!
